Odeon of Herodes Atticus

The  Odeon of Herod Atticus( or wrong Herodium) is an ancient( Roman period) odeon located in the southwest slope of Acropolis, in Athens. It was built very fast with funds from Herod Atticus during the 2nd century a.C. to honor his wife Aspasia Annia Regili who died in 160a.C. This building was destined for music concerts and for that reason was named Odeon. The space for the audience had 32 series of marble seats. The theater could seat up to 5000 spectators. This Odeon operated only 105 years because in 267a.C. many buildings of Athens including this one, were destroyed by foreign invadors. During that period the theater was used for gladiations and bullfightings.
Presently, in the Odeon are hosted cultural activities every summer with great success and response from all over the world.
